Ford GT

The 2016 Ford GT is coming with some new space age technology that sets it apart from Fords of the past. The 2005 Ford GT came with large, thundering 5.4 liter supercharged V8 Engine that is capable of producing 550 horsepower, the new 2017 model will come with a smaller, yet more powerful, twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 that will produce an estimated 600 HP. The changes don’t stop with just the engine; the transmission is now a 7 speed dual clutch instead of the previous manual 6 speed. The body also has been reworked, the body panels and parts of the frame have been replaced with aluminum and carbon fiber to reduce weight. It’s looking like a pretty futuristic piece of machinery, but wait, what’s that you’re looking though? Regular old laminated tempered glass? Nope, it’s the GT’s new Gorilla Glass. Yes, the same technology that helps your phone screen survive a fall is now helping you survive a crash. Gorilla glass uses a combination of soda lime glass and plastic adhesion layers to reduce the weight of the windshield 30% while also making the windshield significantly thinner. The new GT will be a sight for sore eyes when it comes out. I just hope they produce a select few with Gulf Racing colors or the “Heritage special again.
